The why?

So I thought I’d start this whole thing off with… why? Why am I doing this thing?

I believe writing can truly be therapeutic.

And as someone who has spent the better half of my life working on emotional well-being, I am open to anything that can give me that sweet, sweet dopamine hit.

In all honesty, I think its time I start celebrating my life. I am quite a sensitive (read: emotional) person, and so much of my existence is focused on the negatives. I spend so much time fixating on failures that I get paranoid about the future and the many (many, many, MANY) ways it could all go wrong. Why is it that failures always overshadow the successes? Why are the failures given the spotlight and the successes get 10 seconds of air time to then be forgotten?

I need to shake this shit up! I need to start shifting my perspective. I’m hoping that by journaling my achievements I will focus my brain on the positives and hopefully bring a sense of pride and joy in all that I have accomplished. And the dopamine.

I’m also hoping it will give me motivation to keep working toward my goals.

I have had my bucket list ongoing for a long time now.

Back in 2009 I went on a youth camp that had us go through a whole heap of confidence building activities (including WALKING ON FIRE, but that’s a story for another time).  One exercise was to list 10 things we wanted to do before we kick it. A bucket list! To my surprise, the first 10 came remarkably easy so I said to myself “self, I bet I can do 90 more of these!”

Turns out I could! And did!

Since then this thing has undergone some changes as I find your priorities shift a little as you age, but for the most part it has remained the same. I’m also knocking quite a few of them off the list, so why not write this down?
